Getting to know Scotland, one arts festival at a time

There’s perhaps no better time to visit Scotland than August when its cities are in the throes of festival fever. Imagine a week of attending music shows, dance performances, art exhibitions and theatre festivals. Now, imagine them against the backdrop of medieval 15th century castles, stately Victorian mansions and gently rolling hills. The mood is exhilarated, the energy intense, the whisky overflowing, and the feeling that pervades most is, ‘I can’t believe I’m here.’

Linlithgow (Party at the Palace)

On your arrival at the Edinburgh airport, our local representative welcomes you and helps you check-in to your hotel in Linlithgow. Once you’ve freshened up, unpack those dancing shoes and head to the Party at the Palace, the immensely popular music festival held against the imperial backdrop of the 15th century Linlithgow Palace. For the next two days, music royalty from across the world will regale you with pop, rock and contemporary music. Dance, sing-along or simply lie back and soak it all in. Overnight at the Champany Inn in Linlithgow.

Linlithgow – Glasgow

Today, recover gently from the excesses of the night before with a trip to see the Kelpies. These striking 30-meter-high horse head sculptures, represent the mythical shape-shifting water spirits that live in the glens and pools of Scotland. Lap up the fascinating stories, then when you’ve had your fill, proceed to the Falkirk Distillery. Next up is an authentic lunch at the sunlit Canada Wood Kitchen in the Falkirk countryside. After which, you head to Glasgow, one of the best places to enjoy live music. At Glasgow, once you’ve checked-in to your hotel, don’t waste a minute – simply put on your party hat and step out. The night is young and Glasgow offers great restaurants, live local bands and fabulous traditional ceilidhs. Ask your guide for recommendations. Overnight at Radisson RED Hotel in Glasgow

Today, you visit the famous Merchant city at the heart of Glasgow. Colourful, bustling and full of ecelectic boutiques, pubs, cafe's and galleries, it’s where you go to get a taste of Glasgow’s rich art and culture. Visit Mono, a quirky space, for dinner, drinks and new music. Later, get dressed up and shout "Kick the Tyre Brad". In this cult classic, sweethearts Brad (Barry Bostwick) and Janet (Susan Sarandon), stuck with a flat tire during a storm, discover the eerie mansion of Dr. Frank-N-Furter (Tim Curry), a transvestite scientist. As their innocence is lost, Brad and Janet meet a houseful of wild characters. Enjoy the show! Overnigovrnight at Radisson RED Hotel in Glasgow

Glasgow – Edinburgh (Fringe Festival)

Edinburgh (Fringe Festival)

Join Edinburgh trio, Curmudgeon, for an uplifting evening of songs on the old familiar topics of deception, drunkenness (and dangers thereof), disappointment and lost ways of life interspersed with beautiful old airs and lively strathspeys and reels on fiddle, guitar, whistle and Scottish small-pipes. Scottish trad not depressing enough for you? We also do Richard Thompson numbers! Sweetie-rustlers will be ejected, but joiners-in on choruses encouraged. 'Cracking singers. Superb instrumentalists. Their material is varied and unusual, all served up with panache and a sense of humour. Time to feast at Baba, Mezze, charcoal grill and cocktail bar: inspired by the flavours of the Levant. What travellers have to say about Awakeful Experiences.

Dear Sunita and Dudley, we got back from our Alaska/LA trip last week. We had a memorable holiday and this note is to thank you for the same! The itinerary was well thought through and captured most of the 'must-do' bits of Alaska. I must mention that you took care in ensuring we include the stuff that we like - flying, dogs, nature treks, river rafting et al Your choice of hotels was thoughtful, convenient and provided the local experience. This was our first holiday plan with your travel company. My family insists that we do the next ones with you too! have appended a couple of our Alaska pics. Thank you once again!
