Entebbe, Kibale Forest National Park, Queen Elizabeth National Park & Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park
The Wild Side
Meet our representative at the Entebbe International Airport and head to The Boma Hotel, for an overnight stay.
This morning begins early with a 5-hour drive to the Kibale Forest Park. Spread across 795 sq-kms, this dense tropical rainforest teems with chimpanzees, mountain gorillas, red colobus monkeys and L’Hoest’s monkeys, not to mention an incredible 250 species of butterflies and 372 species of birds. Your Primate Lodge is tucked deep inside the forest, right next to the starting point of the Chimpanzee tracking excursions. (Overnight stay at Primate Lodge standard cottages in Kibale Forest National Park)
Today, you go chimp tracking in the Kibale Forest National Park. Before you start your trek, your expert guide gives you a little brief on what to expect. The trek may take 2-3 hours depending on where the chimps are and how lucky you’re feeling that day. On the trek, keep your eyes peeled for other primates such as blue monkeys, grey-cheeked mangabeys and red tailed monkeys. As you walk, your expert guide tells you about the jungle’s other residents, the bushbucks, sitatungas, leopards and forest elephants. Listen to your expert’s stories and ask questions. The more you discover, the more you’ll enjoy your trail. Post lunch, drive for about 3 hours to the Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda’s premier safari destination and one of the most biodiverse reserves in the world. On your way, you pass the stunning volcanic crater lakes and catch sight of the famous “Mountains of the Moon”, the Rwenzori Mountains. Late afternoon, take gamedrives. Situated on the Great Rift Valley escarpment with uninterrupted views of the savannah, Lake Edward and the Virunga and Rwenzori mountain ranges beyond, Katara Lodge is a 20-minute drive away from the main entrance of the Queen Elizabeth National Park. (Overnight stay at Katara lodge in Queen Elizabeth National Park )
Sprawled across 1978 sqkms, over diverse landscapes like bushland, savannah, wetlands and lush forests, the Queen Elizabeth National Park is a veritable treat for wildlife enthusiasts. Go on game drives as well as a boat trip on the Kazinga channel. Spot herds of giraffes, hippos and buffaloes, and if you’re lucky the famous, tree-climbing lions of the savannah. (Overnight stay at Katara lodge in Queen Elizabeth National Park)
Today, you drive for about 6 hours to get to the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. Listed by Unesco as one of the most ancient habitats in Africa, the Impenetrable Forest is as mysteriously beautiful as it sounds. Spread thick and dense across steep mountain slopes, it is home to more than 160 species of trees, over 100 species of ferns and 23 of the 24 Albertine rift endemics including the African green broadbill and the bar tailed trogon. It is also home to over 350 endangered mountain gorillas, more than half of the world’s gorilla population. Silverback Lodge, your base for Gorilla tracking over the next 2 days is only a 5- minute walk to the Uganda Wildlife Authority headquarters and offers breathtaking views of the valley and forests that surround it. (Overnight stay at Silverback Lodge in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park )
Today after an energizing breakfast, you embark on your gorilla trek. Report at the ranger station before 8am for your registration and briefing. The guides then lead you into the forest, parting thick creepers, through the lush undergrowth to track down the gorillas. The trek can take anywhere from half an hour to 7 hours – a reasonable degree of fitness is required as well as a sturdy pair of walking boots. It is an extraordinary feeling to be sitting in the dense rainforest knowing you are with a few of the last remaining mountain gorillas in the world – sadly enough there are only about 650 of these beautiful creatures left. Spend an hour with the gorillas observing them in their natural habitat, before returning to the ranger station. (Overnight stay at Silverback Lodge in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park )
Transfer to the airport. Take a scheduled flight at 0825hrs/1125hrs and connect to your onward flight home

What travellers have to say about Awakeful Experiences.
Dear Sunita and Dudley, we got back from our Alaska/LA trip last week. We had a memorable holiday and this note is to thank you for the same! The itinerary was well thought through and captured most of the 'must-do' bits of Alaska. I must mention that you took care in ensuring we include the stuff that we like - flying, dogs, nature treks, river rafting et al Your choice of hotels was thoughtful, convenient and provided the local experience. This was our first holiday plan with your travel company. My family insists that we do the next ones with you too! have appended a couple of our Alaska pics. Thank you once again!
