Arrive in Las Vegas

Welcome to Las Vegas! On arrival, you’ll be transferred to your hotel. Take the rest of the day to explore this dazzling city on your own. Spend the day on the Strip. Every great hotel and casino worth its salt is located on the Strip. Don’t ignore them even if gambling isn’t your thing, most of them are a sight to behold. Take the glass elevator at Mandalay Bay to enjoy spectacular rooftop views, check out the small Big Apple at New York-New York and the Eiffel Tower at Paris Las Vegas. Walk by the iconic Bellagio fountains, see the exploding volcano at the Mirage, or enjoy a gondola ride at the Venetian, then wind up downtown for a Fremont Street Experience. The night is always, always young in Las Vegas. Overnight at hotel in Las Vegas.

Las Vegas

Today, explore Las Vegas by way of a hop-on-hop-off bus tour. Some major attractions on the Strip include the Hawaiian Marketplace, the Excalibur Hotel, The MGM Grand, New York-New York, The Bellagio, The Mirage and Caesars Palace. Do everything. Seriously! Each sight is spectacularly different than the other. On the Downtown tour, the must-see sights include the Stratosphere, the Mob Museum and the Carroll Shelby Museum. Yes, it’s going to an action-packed sort of day. Overnight in Las Vegas.

Las Vegas to Boulder City (50 km|1 hour)

Pick up your rental car from the car rental agency in Las Vegas and drive to Boulder City. Check-in to your hotel and then head out to the Hoover Dam. Enjoy a guided tour of this man-made architectural wonder. The rest of the day is at leisure. We recommend you spend the evening on the tranquil shores of Lake Mead or enjoy one of many picturesque hiking trails around it. Overnight in Boulder City.

Boulder City to Ely (440 km |4.5 hours)

Drive from your hotel in Boulder City to your hotel in Ely, stopping at Caliente and Cathedral Gorge State Park. Caliente is a former railroad town with a 1923 railway depot that is very photo friendly. A short detour before Caliente will take you to Rainbow Canyon, known for its stunning colorful cliffs. Caliente is also home to Pioneer Pizza, making it an ideal lunch stop. Cathedral Gorge State Park is a small state park with natural spires that make it look like a sky-topped cathedral. Reach Ely by evening, the first stop on your drive down Hwy 50, the ‘Loneliest Road in America”. Look out for Ely’s abundant vintage neon signs. The rest of the day is at leisure to explore. The Great Basin National Park, Lehmann Caves, the Ghost Train and Ely Renaissance Village. You could also visit the East Ely Railroad Depot Museum and enjoy a 90-minute excursion on a train pulled by a steam engine. Overnight in Ely.

Ely to Reno (520 km | 5.5 hours)

Drive from Ely to your hotel in Reno, halting at Eureka, Austin, Cold Springs and Fallon on the way. Eureka’s claim to fame is the $40 million worth of silver extracted from the hills around it in the late 19th century. Austin is an adventure hotspot, offering adrenaline-pumping bike trails. Cold Springs is home to the ruins of Cold Springs Pony Express Station, an emblem of the romance of the Old West. And Fallon is the location of the US Navy’s Top-Gun fighter-pilot training school. The rest of the evening is at leisure. Overnight in Reno.

Reno to Lake Tahoe

Explore Reno in the morning. We recommend you visit the National Automobile Museum and Nevada Museum of Art. Later drive from Reno to Lake Tahoe in the evening. Rest of the day is at leisure. Overnight in Lake Tahoe.

Lake Tahoe

The day is at leisure to explore Lake Tahoe. With its gorgeous beaches, lakes and trails, Lake Tahoe-Nevada State Park is a great way to spend the day. Tahoe City is the most developed region around the lake, while Squaw Valley is a large ski-resort close by. Overnight at Lake Tahoe.

Lake Tahoe to Tonopah (390 km|4.5 hour)

Drive from Lake Tahoe to Tonopah, a historic silver-mining town. En route, visit the Walker Lake State Recreation Area, popular for picnicking, boating, swimming, and fishing, as well as Hawthorne, home to several concrete bunkers from the WWII era. In Tonopah, visit the Central Nevada Museum and the Tonopah Historic Mining Park. The latter lets you explore an actual underground silver mining tunnel and is perfect for stargazing at night. Overnight in Tonopah.

Tonopah to Death Valley National Park to Las Vegas (370 km|4 hours)

Drive from Tonopah back to Las Vegas, halting at Death Valley National Park on the way. At Death Valley National Park, explore Titus Canyon and Badwater Basin, the lowest point in the USA. Overnight in Las Vegas.

Testimonials

What travellers have to say about Awakeful Experiences.

Dear Sunita and Dudley, we got back from our Alaska/LA trip last week. We had a memorable holiday and this note is to thank you for the same! The itinerary was well thought through and captured most of the 'must-do' bits of Alaska. I must mention that you took care in ensuring we include the stuff that we like - flying, dogs, nature treks, river rafting et al Your choice of hotels was thoughtful, convenient and provided the local experience. This was our first holiday plan with your travel company. My family insists that we do the next ones with you too! have appended a couple of our Alaska pics. Thank you once again!
